In this part, we will knit the heel of the sock. The heel construction is clear, well-fitting, and well suited to the overall design of the long Fair Isle socks.
Joulutähti is a knit-along where the complete sock pattern is published step by step.

Sock heel
Cut the contrast color yarn. You now have 61 stitches on the needles.Divide the stitches 15 / 15 / 16 / 15.
The heel is worked in the main color over 30 stitches.Needles 2 and 3 are left on hold (31 stitches).
Slip the stitches from needle 1 onto needle 4.Turn the work and purl 30 stitches. Turn the work.
The heel flap is worked over 30 stitches in reinforced heel stitch.
Row 1 (RS): Knit 2, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1.Repeat from * until 2 stitches remain, knit the last 2 stitches.Turn the work.
Row 2 (WS): Knit 2, purl 26, knit 2.Turn the work.
Repeat Rows 1–2 until the heel flap measures 30 rows, ending with a WS row.
Heel turn
Begin the heel turn by knitting 10 stitches as established. Continue the reinforced stitch pattern for 9 stitches, then work SSK.Turn the work.
Slip 1 stitch purlwise, purl 8 stitches, purl the next 2 stitches together. Turn the work.
Continue working the heel turn in this manner until all side stitches have been decreased and 10 center stitches remain.
Knit 5 stitches to move the seam to the center of the sole.
Pick up 16 stitches along each side of the heel flap.
You now have a total of 73 stitches. Divide the stitches 18 / 18 / 19 / 18.
